Rysia Andrade (playwright of A Strong Girl) is a queer storyteller and artsworker working in Kingston and Toronto, ON. Though she is a poet, theatre-maker and street artist, she considers her big lesbian heart to be her greatest work of art. She eats a lot of raw-cookie dough and has never had e coli. Myque Franz (creator of The Philip & Lucinda Radio Show) holds a BFA in theatre from the University of Northern Iowa, an MFA in ensemble based physical theatre from Dell’arte International and is a certified gymnastic's coach. As co-artistic director of The Grand Salto Theatre Myque's interdisciplinary performances have been presented at Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Toronto Festival of Clowns, Edmonton Play the Fool Festival, Montreal Clown Festival, 60x60, Clay & Paper Theatre, Harbourfront Centre and Fringe Festivals across Canada. He directed and produced the immersive site specific Wapsipionicon Theatre Festival in rural Iowa. Zita Nyarady (creator of the Philip & Lucinda Radio Show) is a dance, theatre and circus artist. She has worked on projects with Guild Festival Theatre, TO Live, Anandam Dance Theatre, Theatre Passe Muraille, Nightwood Theatre, Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Rhubarb Festival, Native Earth, Theatre Direct, Shakespeare in Action, and Odin Teatret. As co-artistic director of The Grand Salto Theatre Zita's interdisciplinary performances have been presented at Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Toronto Festival of Clowns, Edmonton Play the Fool Festival, Montreal Clown Festival, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, 60x60, Clay & Paper Theatre, Harbourfront Centre and Fringe Festivals across Canada. Zita is a sought after circus dramaturge and has worked with LookUp Theatre, Femmes du Feu and Hercinia Arts Collective. Zita was the 2017/18 Dramatist in Residency at The Heliconian Club in Toronto, 2019 choreographer for Chimera Project Company B and is in the Cirque du Soleil performer database.

Sarah Emtage (playwright of Sound Castle) lives in Kingston and works as a library technician at St. Lawrence College. Besides writing Sound Castle she's written two poetry books, Paperscape and The Second Rate Poetry of S. M. Emtage. She's very good at killing house plants and forgetting to take out the trash, and she's pretty good at whistling. She likes to tell stories and loves to grow in knowing Jesus. She has written The Soundcastle for the Shortwave Theatre Festival. |
R.J.Downes (playwright of The Revolution Has Failed) has been a playwright, producer, stage manager, director and occasional actor for over 26 years. As a playwright his works have been performed all across the GTA as well as in Hamilton, Stratford, & Kingston. Sean Meldrum (playwright and actor in Talk to Me) is a Canadian theatre artist, filmmaker, and musician. Credits as a writer include Gnaw (Theatre Mies, Toronto Fringe, 2016) and From the Thunder (True Perspective, 2019). Selected credits as an actor include Delusion (Out There Creative, 2020) and Judith Thompson’s HotHouse (Original Cast, Theatre Kingston, 2015). Over the past year, Sean’s short film From the Thunder screened at festivals across the world, winning Best Short Film at the Florence Film Awards, and his experimental piece I Am Like The Moon premiered at the Squat Betty Avant Garde Film Night in London, England. He is a playwright-in-residence with The Cellar Door Project and the in-house screenwriter for Toronto film production house, True Perspective. His play, The Diagnosis, was shortlisted for the Newmarket International Playwriting Competition. For his performance in Cakewalk, he was the recipient of the Focus Film Festival’s 2016 Award for Best Actor. In 2019, he was the recipient of the George Brown Opportunity Award for his work in Sound Design. Talk to Me is his seventh collaboration with The Cellar Door Project.

Jack Burnham (playwright and director of Children of Thomas) is currently a third year politics student at Queen’s University and thinks the second season of The Wire is underrated. When he’s not writing, Jack can be found cheering loudly for the Toronto Maple Leafs or riding his bike on a country road in Vermont. He also loves to find new stories and can’t stop reading. Jack was inspired to write Children of Thomas due to his interest in science fiction and the intersections of belief and doubt in a post-truth landscape. This is his first time both writing and directing a radio drama.

Maddy Scovil (director of A Strong Girl, Ruth in The Revolution Has Failed ) is a Kingston-based theatre artist and educator. Though she has worked as an actor, director, playwright and producer in Kingston for many years, she is thrilled to be working on her first collaboration with The Cellar Door Project. She is fairly new to radio theatre as well but is eager to return to it after working on CFRC’s The War of the Worlds in 2018. During her BAH in Drama and French and her BEd in Arts Education at Queen’s University, she worked extensively with the children’s theatre troupe The Barefoot Players and fell in love with theatre for young audiences and theatre education. In her final year with them she got her first taste for directing and has since worked with companies like the Stratford Shakespeare Festival School, as well as local companies like Blue Canoe Productions and Viva Productions. Most days you can find her performing puppet shows or hosting arts-based workshops at the library.

Liam Bidmead (director of The Revolution Has Failed) is a Director, Actor, Musician and Composer with a primary focus working on interdisciplinary collaboration for the stage. He is the Founder and Artistic Producer of GRID Stage Company. Liam was also the Artistic Director and Founder of Coldwater Youth Arts Theatre, an all youth theatre company in his hometown of Coldwater Ontario. Directing credits include: Pool (No Water), The Typographer’s Dream (GRID Stage Company), Spring Awakening, Spamalot (Blue Canoe Productions), Little Women the Broadway Musical and Youth Will Rock You (CYAT). Becky Bridger (director of Sound Castle) is excited to be exploring the art of radio drama with the Shortwave Theatre Festival. Her past directing credits include:The Pigeon (Storefront Fringe Festival), The Crucible (Brockville Theatre Guild), My Darling Judith (Brockville Theatre Guild), Miracle on 34th Street (Brockville Theatre Guild), and The List (Toronto Fringe Festival). Becky has completed her Master of Arts in Drama from the University of Toronto, and Bachelor of Arts Honours in Drama and Environmental Studies from Queens University. She also has a Bachelor of Education from York University, and is certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. When not directing, Becky also enjoys performing onstage and for her three boys at home.

Anthony D.P. Mann (director of The Philip & Lucinda Radio Show) is a writer, director, and producer of internationally-acclaimed audio dramas for Bleak December Inc., a label specializing in the adaptation of classic tales of horror and mystery. His work has featured the creative talents of Malcolm McDowell, David Warner, Sir Derek Jacobi and Brian Blessed among other legends of film & television. As a filmmaker, Anthony has helmed and appeared in five feature films, all currently enjoying worldwide distribution. Anthony can also be heard voiceing several beloved characters including The Count, The Librarian, and The Oracle on the album Return to Frirghtenstein, a new audio reboot of the cult Canadian TV series The Hilarious House of Frightenstein.

Wallis Caldoza (director of Talk to Me) is a dramaturg pursuing her PhD in the Social Justice Education department at OISE at the University of Toronto. Her research works at determining how to prevent Othering in Canadian tertiary academic institutions using quotidian dramaturgy informed by Black Studies and Indigenous Studies. Selected credits include: co-producer with Madison Lymer for "The Afterword" (FOLDA, 2020); dramaturg and performance lead for "Talk to Me" by Sean Meldrum (Cellar Door Project, FOLDA, CFRC 101.9FM, 2020); research as a graduate assistant for Dr Kathleen Gallagher’s SSHRC-funded project "Audacious Citizenship" (University of Toronto, 2019-2020); playwright for Beyond the Bard (Driftwood Theatre, 2020), playwright for Trafalgar 24 (Driftwood Theatre, 2019); postgraduate induction workshop facilitator (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD), 2018); collaborative writer and scenographer for "Armen Avanessian & Enemies #33 Corresponding with ghosts – A staged reading with music on the legacy of debt" (RCSSD and the Volksbühne Berlin, 2017 – 2018); organizer of "A Space: 48 Hours at Queen’s University" (2017); dramaturgy intern at CAHOOTS Theatre (CAHOOTS Theatre, 2016 – 2017). Kate Seip (director of Children of Thomas) is a costume designer, theatre administrator, film maker, actor as well as director and is currently a drama major at Queen’s University. She works as an administrative assistant at Blue Canoe Productions in Kingston where she found passion for theatre management. Upon graduating she hopes to pursue her Masters in Arts Management and continue working at theatre companies. In addition to school and work, Kate has been involved in various roles in several productions including Hamlet, Midnight With Envy (KW Youth Theatre); 9 Worst Breakups of All Time (Sears Drama Festival); Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (Queen’s University); The Bruce Documentary (Bruce County Heritage Foundation); Daddy’s Girl, The Trouble With Cats, and Cocktails With Mimi (Theatre Wellesley). Aside from theatre, Kate loves cooking and going for walks and has recently taken up painting during the pandemic. Kate is ecstatic to explore new (and old) mediums of theatre during the Shortwave Theatre Festival.

Ensor Moriarty (sound designer for A Strong Girl) is a second year computing student, and QSWC newsletter editor at Queen’s University. He is no stranger to plays, having served as both an actor and pit band member in previous productions, and is excited to add producer to that list. He is best known in acting circles for his performance as “Buldeo” in the Whitby Courthouse Theater’s production of “The Jungle Book” and as the pit band tuba player in Sinclair Secondary School’s production of “The Wizard of Oz”. He had a lot of fun working on this project, and he hopes you enjoy. |
John Sanfilippo (sound designer of Philip & Lucinda Radio Show) You may not know him by name, but you’ve heard his work. John Sanfilippo is a sound strategist and owner of Tyton Sound in Kingston, Ontario. Through Tyton he works with brands to craft unique audio identities. In addition, John brings a wealth of experience in the world of broadcasting and sound production. Some of John’s more notable works include the documentary Wawahte which recounts the stories of residential school survivors, the viral video O Canada by the Singing Bridge, the Kingston Live Podcast, and many commercial jingles and audio brand identities known throughout southern Ontario.

Ali Dixon (sound designer of The Revolution Has Failed) is a multi-media artist and filmmaker originally from Kingston's surrounding area. She holds Bachelor of Arts degree from the Film and Media Department at Queen's University and is currently pursuing an MFA at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. In 2019, Ali was one of three students to receive the CD Howe Scholarship from the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts for academic film work. She has also shown two short film at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival. While the majority of her work is primarily still or moving image, Ali has recently embarked on experimenting with various medias and creative forms, from poetry and prose to soundscapes and digital collage. She likes to draw from such themes as the surreal, the occult, and the whimsical.

Matt Rogalsky's (sound designer of Sound Castle) work in sonic arts includes live electronic music performance, sound/intermedia installation, and study/recreations of late 20th century live electronic music by David Tudor and other composers. His revisioning, in collaboration with John Driscoll and Phil Edelstein, of the installation work Rainforest by Tudor and his group Composers Inside Electronics was acquired in 2017 by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City for its permanent collection, and was shown in the newly redesigned MoMA in 2019. Other current work includes development of a collaborative dance piece with Vancouver-based choreographer Ahalya Satkunaratnam, and collaborative research with geographer Laura J Cameron focusing on soundscape, listening practices, and the life and work of early Canadian field recordist William WH Gunn. The Gunn project has resulted in several works of research-creation including the outdoor sound installations Octet (2016) and Into the Middle of Things (2017, with LJ Cameron), the concert work Revisitation G (2018), and an ambisonic surround-sound remastering of Gunn’s classic monophonic environmental sound LP A Day In Algonquin Park. Rogalsky is based at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario where he leads the Sonic Arts Studio in the Dan School of Drama and Music, and also teaches in the Department of Film and Media, and the Cultural Studies graduate program. Jeremy Kerr (sound designer for The Sound Castle) is a sound artist, composer and musician based in Kingston, Ontario. His works include the power-ambient tone poem Mother Drone and Other Ancient Spirits of Great Powerand the soundscape simulator Islands and the Woods presented at the Union Gallery at Queen's. He has also worked with various Kingston theatre collectives including Blue Canoe Productions, Theatre Kingston and Queen's Musical Theatre both as a sound designer and as a pit band guitarist and bassist. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Dan School of Drama and Music where he focused his studies on electronic music composition, classical guitar and local music scenes. He is heavily influenced by a DIY aesthetic and currently plays bass in The Meringues. |
Sebastian Vaillancourt (sound designer for Children of Thomas) is a Student/ Artist living in Kingston while studying Media And Performance Production at Queen's University. Sebastian first became interested in the arts through theatre and film camps as a kid which sparked a passion for acting and film production. That passion carried Sebastian to Queen's where he has spent the past few years gaining incredible experience in performance, theatre tech, and sound design, opening the door for great opportunities like this. Tracey Guptill (actor in A Strong Girl and The Revolution Has Failed) is a movement-based actor, collaborative creator, and teaching artist who recently studied with Philippe Gaulier in France. She founded anARC Theatre and developed the coLABoratory method as a part of her Performance as Research master's thesis completed with the Environmental Studies department at Queen's University in 2014. This method was used to co-create ‘When I Get There’ for her thesis, the feminist punk rock show ‘Anybody Can Be Pussy Riot’ that won Best in Fest at Kingston’s Storefront Festival, and ‘Our House’, a site-specific piece about civic engagement developed with the Cellar Door Project at Kingston’s Grad Club. Tracey has worked as an actor in Kingston under the direction of Kim Renders, with Single Thread Theatre Company, and in Ottawa’s theatre scene with Third Wall Theatre Company, Odyssey Theatre, The Company of Fools and Les Ateliers du Corps with Daniel Mroz. Tracey is a co-founder of the Kingston Stilters and she teaches the Foundations of Acting at the Dan School of Drama and Music at Queen's University. She was recently a Lead Artist for the 2019 inFORMING CONTENT Lab with Volcano Theatre.

Montreal-born, Ottawa-raised, Kingston resident (since 2015) Douglas Connors (actor in Sound Castle and The Revolution Has Failed) is keeping busy enjoying his recently attained triple-threat status. He trained as a contemporary dancer (admitted to BFA in Modern Dance at Concordia University) and has dabbled in choreography. An actor since the age of 10, among his many stage credits you'll find: Martin Yesterday (Matt), Sauna: The Musical (Maurice), And Then There Were None (Dr Armstrong), Bent (Greta) and, Matilda (Rudolpho). His baritone vocals have been featured in various musicals such as: Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (Jimmy), Naked Boys Singing, Nunsense A-men! (Sister Mary Leo), and Chicago (The Judge). Kingstonians may recently have seen Douglas at Domino Theatre in To Kill a Mockingbird, and he'll soon be there again, in the male lead role of Patrick Flanagan in Kingstown Theatre's upcoming production of David French's side-splitting comedy Jitters. Douglas has done children’s theatre, once pitched and hosted a game show on public access, and has appeared in TV commercials, public service announcements, corporate videos, short films, and YouTube videos. Among his passions are cooking, travel, curling, tennis, and salty/saucy political commentary (check out his Twitter or True North Eager Beaver page on Facebook). Douglas is very much looking forward to adding radio theatre to his repertoire and is excited to join CFRC's talented Shortwave Theatre Company. Francesca Pang (actor in Sound Castle and The Revolution Has Failed) is excited to return to radio theatre in Kingston after her debut in CFRC’s production of War of the Worlds in 2018. She is a graduate from Queen’s University and holds Bachelors in Fine Art and Education, specializing as an Artist in Community Education. When she isn’t working at a desk, she is a practising visual artist and an avid performing arts enthusiast - you can find her creating in the studio, grooving in the dance studio, wielding a sabre, or telling stories and singing anywhere it is socially acceptable to do so. With over twenty years of drawing inspiration in and through theatre, Vicki Hargreaves (actor in A Strong Girl and The Revolution Has Failed) has worked professionally as an actor, director, arts educator and producer. This past year, she returned to Kingston as General Manager for The Kick and Push festival and continues to work in the Kingston arts ecology as advocate and theatre maker. Vicki knows from both her International and Canadian work that the arts are nurtured and explored in the nooks and crannies of a city. The Shortwave Radio Theatre Festival represents the best of that kind of exploration. Jaime Maitland (actor in The Revolution Has Failed and A Strong Girl) was born and raised in Gananoque, Ontario and has had an interest in performing since since he was a young age. He is especially interested in any opportunity to make people laugh. By day he is a structural engineer to support his creative endeavours, which include voice-acting, improv and screenwriting. The Shortwave Theatre Festival is his first foray into radio drama and he is very excited to be a part of the Company. |
Mariah Horner (actor in Talk to Me) is a PhD Student and artist based in Kingston, Ontario. Selected credits include: assistant directing Unholy (GCTC, upcoming), directing Hana Hashimoto: Sixth Violin (Thousand Islands Playhouse, 2019), assistant directing Behaviour (GCTC/SpiderWebShow, 2019). She works on digital content with SpiderWebShow's foldA. She helmed Kingston's Storefront Fringe Festival from 2016-2018. Co-founding the Cellar Door Project with Devon Jackson in 2013, Mariah has produced, dramaturged or appeared in 15 original site-specific works. Mariah played Kate Unger in George F. Walker’s HBO Canada Series Living in Your Car. Haley Sarfeld (composer/performer in A Strong Girl) is a singer, songwriter, busker, and book-storer who loves puns and tongue twisters. She has been described as having “a melodic and pleasurable way of saying things that are actually really sad,” which she applies to music, poetry, and text messages in equal measure. When the world wasn’t falling apart so much, she could be found hosting coffeehouses and singing with various music groups (Sapph Decaf, Anthea & the Feaver Dreams) at venues around town. Since she’s staying home for the foreseeable future, you can hear her sing in A Strong Girl this November.

Christina Naumovski (Stage Manager of Children of Thomas is a second year student at Queen's university majoring in Drama. Once graduating she hopes to pursue a career in technical theatre, which is something she loves and has done throughout university and high school. She has been involved in many productions, including Beauty and the Beast (Pickering High School), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Pickering High School), Concord Floral (Sears Drama Festival), Shape of a Girl (Ontario Drama Festival), Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (Queen's University), and now as stage manager for Children of Thomas. Malan (actor in Children of Thomas) is a South African trained opera singer, actress, director, producer, voice over artist, composer and writer who obtained her BMus at Stellenbosch University, specialising in stage performance. She's been in operas such as 'Le Nozze di Figaro', 'Dido and Aeneas', plays such as 'Macbeth', 'Design for Living', 'Jane Eyre' , the all-female cast of 'Othello: A Woman's Story' as Iago, '5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche', musicals such as 'The Full Monty' , 'Shadows in Red Light' where she originated the leading role, 'Public City' as singer and musical director, 'Because It's Okay I' , 'Because It's Okay II' , 'Calling Us Home' and 'The Nose'. Regina owns her own Theatre production company, staging and starring in LGBTQ shows and giving a voice to the voiceless. Regina also teaches 4 musical instruments and she is looking forward to going on brand new adventures to explore new creative mediums in 2020. |
Charity Wessel (actor in The Children of Thomas) is a third year Drama/Psychology student at Queen’s University. She is very excited to be in her first radio show and has previously been involved in high school plays while being the captain of her high school improv team. She has a big heart with concern for social justice and believes that love is for everyone.

Abby Wolfe (actor in Children of Thomas) lives in Kingston and loves to act her heart out. She's auditioned for and played many roles over her years of theatre. She has been in a production of Narnia (2017), Noises off (2019), and Kong's Night out (2020). She has also been doing improv and competed in olympics since 2016. She is extremely excited to work on a radio show to learn and gain even more experience! |
Meg Gibson (actor in Children of Thomas) is a senior in High School and as far back as she can remember, has been interested in drama. From Barefoot Players' Camp, to elementary school drama, and then, in the summer of 2016, to the Shakespeare Intensive course located in Stratford, Ontario. She found her way into community theatre through the 2016 production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at the Domino Theatre, where she played Beth. Since then, she's been involved in a variety of musicals with Blue Canoe Productions, continues to attend the Shakespeare Intensive course, and stays engaged in opportunities for learning. When not seeking out dramatic projects, Meg takes time to work on her visual art and her music, and finds inspiration in film and theatre. She is thrilled to be working on her first radio drama.

Skylar Jordan (actor in Children of Thomas) is a Kingston based musician and actress. She is entering her second year of vocal studies in the Bachelor of Music program at Queen’s University. She has been actively involved in local theatre throughout the years most recently playing Ellie in Freaky Friday (Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions), Rosalie Mullins in School of Rock the Musical (Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute), Esther Sherman in Fame Jr. the Musical (Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions), and Marty in Grease the Musical (Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute). Skylar is very excited to gain experience in radio theatre and she looks forward to working with everyone involved. |
Hamish Hutchison-Poyntz (actor in Children of Thomas) is an actor and a 3rd year Drama/Politics medial student at Queen's University. Hamish has acted in several Queen's-associated productions, including The Drowsy Chaperone (2019) and Goodbye Paris (2019). He has also worked as a dramaturg for the Dan Studio Series, and as a writer, actor and Director of Operations for Colliding Scopes Theatre. When not trying to cram as much theatre as he can into his life, Hamish enjoys binging whatever podcast he hasn't yet heard, attempting to understand the confusion that is politics and spending time with his wonderful housemates.

Annabelle Gillis (actor in Children of Thomas) is a passionate 15 year old actress. She has experience in television, modelling, music, musical theatre, theatre and improvisation. She has done many theatrical productions and is looking forward to pursuing her dreams in this field. Annabelle’s scholarship with the New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts has led to the expansion of her career and deep love for the entertainment business. She is an actress in the “Children of Thomas” podcast and is so excited to share it with the world! Annabelle spreads joy, fun and love everywhere she goes and she hopes that this project will entertain all who listen! |
Serena Ferzli (actor in Children of Thomas) is a young opera singer studying at Queen’s University to complete a Bachelor of Music, in classical voice. Serena is new to the professional world of music and theatre, but is extremely excited to work with Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions, and to start her journey in voice acting and radio theatre. |
Bruce Kauffman (actor in The Revolution Has Failed) lives in Kingston and is a local poet, editor, and organizer of literary events. His written work has appeared in several anthologies and journals, broadsides, two chapbooks, and four collections of poetry, his latest - an evening’s absence still waiting for moon, 2019. He has edited 7 anthologies. Beyond writing and editing, he organizes occasional book launch or reading events, facilitates intuitive writing workshops, founded, organizes and hosts: the monthly and the journey continues open mic reading series, the annual multiday Poets @ Artfest poetry festival, and an annual Kingston event tied to other 100 Thousand Poets for Change global events. He also produces and hosts his weekly spoken word radio show, finding a voice, on CFRC 101.9fm, Kingston, ON. |

Dinah Jansen (CFRC Station Manager, Shortwave Theatre Festival Executive Producer) oversees all operations at CFRC 101.9 FM, the world's longest running campus radio station, broadcasting from Queen's University since 1922. For the Shortwave Theatre Festival, she coordinates and oversees production, quality control, and distribution work for each performance including development and financing while executing administrative and promotional work for the project. |
Mo Horner (Cellar Door Project Artistic Director, Shortwave Theatre Festival Director) oversees the operations of independant site-specific theatre collective Cellar Door Project and co-founded the company in 2012. After producing shows in bars, parks, cemeteries, record stores, and the Diefenbunker, she's stoked to bring Cellar Door Project's work to the radio. Mariah was responsible for programming Shortwave, developing original works with the Shortwave Festival playwrights and promoting the heck out of this stellar festival. |
